Violence in Mexico…

PASO DEL MACHO, VERACRUZ

A shootout lasting a half day between federal authorities and gunmen left 3 bad guys dead, one wounded, and 2 others arrested.

CHAVARRILLO, VERACRUZ

Two men were found beheaded in the cemetery here. Neither body was identified.

APODACA, NUEVO LEÓN

A fight between inmates at the prison here left 20 dead. Further information is expected after the investigation is completed. A later report up the death count to 38.

TORREON, COAHUILA*

A shootout between municipal police and gunmen over the weekend left four people dead, including three gunmen and one police officer , and four officers wounded.

TULUM, QUINTANA ROO

The body of a 53 year old taxi driver was found with his head crushed and throat cut in a city park. Robbery was not the motive as his valuables were still on the body, including a gold bracelet. (Note: Tulum is the site of well known Mayan pyramid and ruins.)

CUERNAVACA, MORELOS

Gunmen chased a van with 5 adults and 4 children, firing on it and causing it to hit a power pole. One adult and a 9 year old child were killed. An 11 year old was wounded in the jaw and back, and is in serious condition.

DONATO GUERRA, MICHOACAN

A working farm here hid rooms behind bales of hay and straw where methamphetamine was made. Authorities seized 3.6 tons of meth, ready to be made into crystal. The farm had a plowed field, animals including egg-producing chickens, cows, oxen and sheep. It was located in a mountainous region, surrounded by pines, and allowed any movement to be spotted in all four directions. The lab was operated by the Knights Templar.
