The governor of the State of Sinaloa has asked the Mexican Defense department for better weapons for their police. He cited the recent ambush which left 7 officers dead, partly due to the cartel’s superior fire power (better weapons). He also related the three ambush attacks on highways which killed a total of 25 officers. He pointed out the gunmen used automatic rifles and armor, which put the police at a disadvantage. For this reason he specifically asked for AK 47’s and the .50 Caliber Barrett rifle (which can defeat armor).
