TUCSON, Ariz. – Tucson Sector Border Patrol agents, working in collaboration with multiple agencies, seized more than a ton of abandoned marijuana near Interstate 8 this week.
Agents from Casa Grande were conducting joint operations Sunday with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations and the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office when agents and officers discovered tire tracks leading to an abandoned vehicle filled with 678 pounds of marijuana worth more than $339,000.
Tuesday, Casa Grande agents working with HSI and PCSO discovered a Chevy Tahoe just south of Interstate 8 near Ventana, Ariz., with 80 bundles of cellophane-wrapped marijuana concealed in dense brush. A Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine helicopter was called in to help agents and officers on the ground to search the area for suspects. No arrests were made. The dope, totaling 1,760 pounds, has an estimated value $880,000. Records indicate the vehicle was reported stolen.
All narcotics involved were seized and turned over to the DEA.
